Air Commodore Vikas Sharma on Monday took over as the Air Officer Commanding (AOC) of Air Force Station at Chabua in Dibrugarh district, also known as ‘Eastern Bastion’ of the IAF.
The change of Command ceremony was marked by an impressive ceremonial parade, which was reviewed by the outgoing AOC, Air Commodore George Thomas, before he handed over the charge of station to Air Commodore Vikas Sharma.
Air Commodore Vikas Sharma was commissioned in fighter stream of the flying branch of the IAF on June 16, 1990.

He is a Pilot Attack Instructor and is a graduate of Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and College of Air Warrior, Secunderabad. He is operationally qualified on all roles of the MiG-21 and MiG-29 aircraft.
During his distinguished service of 28 years, the IAF officer has held many important operational assignments including Commanding Officer of a fighter squadron and also Chief Operations Officer of a fighter base.
Apart from the operational flying, he has held portfolios of Staff Officer to the Vice Chief of Air Staff as well as the Chief Of Air Staff. His previous assignment was as the Defence Attache of India to the Kingdom of Thailand.
He is married to Rajni Sharma and is blessed with two daughters, Asmita and Anahita.
