Guwahati: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Sunday launched a sharp attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing him of resorting to โmedia trialsโ and diversionary politics instead of adhering to due judicial process.
Speaking at a press conference at the Sribhumi District Congress office, AICC Media Cell Convenor Nighat Abbass said that if the Chief Minister possesses any concrete evidence linking Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi to Pakistan, he should approach the court and file a formal FIR rather than making allegations in the public domain.
Abbass alleged that Sarmaโs statements reflected political frustration and aimed to tarnish the image of the Congress leadership through insinuations before the media. โMatters that fall under the jurisdiction of the judiciary should not be casually debated in press briefings,โ she said.
Taking a swipe at both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Chief Minister, Abbass noted that senior BJP leaders often urge political opponents to โgo to Pakistan.โ โIf they are confident about their claims, they should themselves go to Pakistan, obtain documentary evidence concerning Gaurav Gogoi, and submit it to the court,โ she added.
She further accused the BJP leadership of being disconnected from the ground realities in Assamโs Barak Valley, asserting that both the Centre and the state government were more focused on political narratives than on addressing the concerns of the people of Karimganj and the wider Barak region.
Concluding the remarks, Abbass said the Chief Ministerโs repeated public comments on sensitive matters reflected growing impatience and a disregard for institutional processes, warning that such conduct undermines democratic norms and public trust.
