The Department of Food Science and Nutrition, College of Community Science, Assam Agricultural University of Jorhat in eastern Assam has successfully completed a number of programmes in the month of September in keeping with the Centre’s directive to celebrate the month as National Nutrition Month.
Pranati Das, head of the department said that this year the decision to celebrate the month of September as the National Nutrition Month was taken during the meeting of National Council on India’s Nutrition Challenges under the Poshan Abhiyaan by the Ministry of Women and Child Development and NITI Aayog focusing on eight areas comprising of optimal breast feeding, growth monitoring, hygiene and sanitation, food fortification, girls’ education, diet and marriage at right age to achieve improvement in nutritional status of children, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers.

“Focusing the aims and objectives of this year’s theme on ‘Go further with food’ the Department of Food Science and Nutrition celebrated National Nutrition Month by organizing various programmes,” she said.
The programmes included organization of an exhibition in the college premises, a poster and extempore speech competitions among the students of College of Community Science, a training programme for the ICDS supervisors, an awareness programme for the students and mothers of Pirakota Bharalua MV School, Teok and a panel discussion on ketogenic diet by the post graduate students of department of Food Science and Nutrition.
