The AGP announced their Dhubri and Barpeta candidates right after Congress announced its list on Friday.
As a part of its pre-poll alliance, the BJP has left the Barpeta and Dhubri seats for its ally – AGP.
The Dhubri Lok Sabha seat will witness a triangular contest – the main players being AIUDF’S Badruddin Ajmal, Congress’s Abu Taher Bepari and AGP’s Zaved Islam.
Zaved was an MLA (Independent) and his father Zehirul Islam was a Congress loyalist from Mankachar area of Assam.
For the Barpeta seat, Congress’s Abdul Khaleq will lock horns with AIUDF’s Hafiz Rafikul Islam and AGP’s Kumar Deepak Das.
Both the constituencies are Muslim- majority pockets and the AIUDF emerged victorious from both the seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
Both the seats were won by Ajmal and his younger brother Sirajuddin Ajmal. However, this year, the latter is not contesting in the elections.
