More than a month after Darrang DC Prabhati Thaosen ordered a magisterial inquiry into the death of two persons from the minority community in police firing following a clash with security personnel at Dholpur in Assam’s Sipajhar area, the district administration has fixed November 7 and 8 as the dates for hearing on the incident.

A notification issued by the DC on Thursday said that the Darrang district administration has fixed 07/11/2021 and 08/11/2021 as dates for hearing/recording of testimony/statements by persons/organizations on the September 23 incident during an eviction drive last month at Dholpur under Sipajhar revenue circle, resulting in the death of two persons.

The notification said that District Magistrate Prabhati Thaosen ordered a magisterial inquiry on the day of the incident itself.

As per an official order released by the office of the District Magistrate, eyewitnesses/interested persons have been requested to testify or record their statement on the incident in front of District Development Commissioner Subhalakshmi Deka at the Conference Hall of the Block Development Office under Sipajhar development block on November 7 and 8 between 10:30 am and 2:30 pm.

Two protesters were killed and many others, including police personnel, were injured during clashes between police and local people in Dholpur Gorukhuti area in Darrang district on September 23.

The clashes broke out at a time when a team of security personnel went to the area to evict encroachers.

Over 800 families were rendered homeless after the Assam government carried out a massive eviction drive in Dholpur Gorukhuti village of Darrang district.
