The Army and Assam police during a joint operation carried out at Makum in Tinsukia district apprehended a cadre of the Isak-Muivah faction of the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) on Saturday.
The joint operation was carried out at around 8 am based on secret information by 3 Garhwal Rifles of the Army and Tinsukia police.
The active NSCN-IM cadre, who landed in the dragnet of the police and Army, has been identified as SS Pvt Biswajit Pangey.
According to information, the joint operating team was able to seize one 9 mm pistol along with 4 rounds of live ammunition from the possession of the active NSCN(IM) cadre.
Sources informed that the NSCN(IM) cadre hails from Bagaribari of Sadiya in Tinsukia district.
In December last year, security forces were able to nab two NSCN (IM) linkmen from Namdang and Longphabasti area in upper Assam’s Tinsukia district.
Informing about the apprehension, an Army official in a statement had said, “Based on a specific intelligence input received from local sources regarding movement of NSCN (IM) over-ground workers in Namdang and Longphabasti area for carrying out extortion, an operation was launched by the 9th Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles at Namdang area and apprehended the two over-ground cadre.”
The nabbed NSCN (IM) linkmen were identified as Kena Pangtok and Ravi Kumar Paswan.
While Paswan is a resident of Longpha village in Tinsukia, Pangtok is a resident of Phangsum basti of Changlang district in Arunachal Pradesh.
