The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) on Monday slammed the state government for being apathetic towards the Bodo medium education in Assam. They also alleged that the government is planning to destroy the Bodo medium and Bodo language which is included in 8th schedule of the Indian constitution.
The Education Secretary of the ABSU, Kastom Basuamtary in a press meet held at Bodofa House, Kokrajhar said education is the universal right of every human being and fundamental right for every citizen of India as provided under article 21 (A), and further, the government of India brought Right of Children to free and compulsory education act in 2009 for the children aged between 6-14.

But despite this act, the survival of Bodo medium schools in Assam is a serious issue, he said adding that making education a fundamental right was a mockery in the state. He also said in all eleven districts venture LP schools are 517, all venture ME school are 149 and all venture High School are 103.
Basumatary said the ABSU has already carried out survey on the present state of Bodo medium schools in eleven districts of Assam where these schools are facing severe problems.
In Kokrajhar district, the number of the venture LP school are 128, number of the venture ME school is 23, number of the venture High School is 13, number of single teachers in LP is 84, number of Science teachers post vacancies in ME is 44, number of Hindi teachers post vacancies in ME is 18, number of Asstt. teachers post vacancies in ME is 42, number of Science teachers post vacancies in HS & HSS is 42, number of Hindi teachers post vacancies in HS & HSS is 37 and number of Asstt. teachers post vacancies in HS & HSS is 84.
In Chirang district, number of the venture LP school is 81, number of the venture ME School is 24, number of the venture High School is 12, number post vacancies in LP is 25, number of post vacancies in ME is 09 and number of post vacancies in HS is 90.

Meanwhile, in Bagsa district, number of the venture LP School is 57, number of the venture ME School is 29, number of the venture High School is 12, number of post vacancies in LP is 150, number of post vacancies in ME is 260, and total number of post vacancies in HS is 94. In Udalguri district, number of the venture LP School is 79, number of the venture ME School is 19, number of the venture High School is 25, in Sonitpur district, number of the venture LP School is 74, number of the venture ME School is 17 and total number of the venture High School is 11, in Biswanath district, number of the venture LP School is 46, number of the venture ME School is 12 and total number of the venture High School is 05.
Similarly, in Dhemaji district, number of the venture LP School is 39, number of the venture ME School is 11, number of the venture High School is 13, number post vacancies in LP is 39, number post vacancies in ME is11 and total number post vacancies in HS is13.
In Karbi Anglong district, number of the venture LP School is 03, number of the venture ME School is 03, number of the venture High School is 06, in Golaghat district, number of the venture LP School is 03, number of the venture ME School is 04 and total number of the venture High School is 02. In Goalpara district, number of the venture LP School is 07, number of the venture ME School is 05 and total number of the venture High School is 04 and in Lakhimpur district, the total number of the venture ME School is 02.
The ABSU gave August 31 as the dateline for solution of Bodo medium problems in Assam, failure of which will compel ABSU to start fresh and vigorous mass agitation against the apathetic attitude of the state government.
The president of Kokrajhar district committee, ABSU Janak Uzir also said the apathetic attitude of the government of Assam was very unfortunate. He alleged that the state government has taken up policy to destroy the Bodo medium in Assam but the ABSU will not allow that to happen
The ABSU demanded immediate filing up of vacant posts across Assam, appointment in LP schools where single teachers are running the school, appointment of adequate mathematics, Science and Hindi teachers, provincialization of all Bodo medium schools from primary to High school etc.
