The All Assam Students’ Union(AASU) on Wednesday staged a protest at East and West Revenue circle office in Dibrugarh demanding solutions to various problems of Dibrugarh.

The Borbaruah and Lahowal units of AASU staged the protest in the circle office demanding solutions to the problems of Dibrugarh.

Talking to media persons, AASU leader Rupjyoti Borthakur said, “The police should arrest the big fish who are involved in land scams.”

“Till now over 400 land dalals (brokers) have been arrested by police in Assam. The police should arrest the land mafias who are involved in land scams in the state,” he added.

Borthakur alleged, “The circle officers are also involved in the land scam and the common people have to face problems in the cricle offices. We demand the arrest of the main culprits.”

“Illegal constructions should be stopped. Many big flats have been built in Dibrugarh in the recent past and due to that the water-logging problem of Dibrugarh has not been solved,” Borthakur said.

“The Lat mandals and circle officers are also involved in the commission raj due to which the common people have faced lots of problem in Dibrugarh circle office. The commission raj should be stopped,” another AASU leader said.

In Dibrugarh, at least 17 land brokers were arrested and they were sent to jail.

The arrested land brokers claimed in front of the cameras that many big names are associated with the land scam.

“We are small people, many big and reputed names are associated with the scam. They are also involved in the scam and they should be arrested,” said a land broker in front of the media at Dibrugarh police station.
