The All Assam students’ Union (AASU) has announced a mega statewide anti-CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) protest on March 20.

This was informed by AASU president Dipanka Nath on Monday.

“On March 20, all AASU activists would take part in the mega anti-CAA protest, which would take place across Assam,” Dipanka Nath said.

The AASU activists would take out bike rallies in every part of the State, informed Dipanka Nath.

“Our aim is to make all, especially those living in the rural areas, aware of the draconian CAA introduced by the BJP Government. We will reach out to all and make them aware of how the CAA is a threat to the identity and culture of Assam,” said Dipanka Nath.

Notably, this mega anti-CAA protest would be held on March 20, just a week before the first phase of Assam Assembly elections.

On the other hand, the Assam Congress too is banking heavily on its anti-CAA stand to win them back the State.

The Assam Congress, in fact, has ‘guaranteed’ that if voted back to power in Assam, it will introduce a law, which will nullify the CAA implementation.

AASU president Dipanka Nath further slammed the BJP-led Assam Government for ‘failing’ to fulfil a host of promises it had made prior to the 2016 Assam Assembly elections.
