At a time when the State has recorded rise in cases of crime against women and girl children, another incident of molestation of a six-year-old girl child has taken place in Bamunjali area under Dimakuchi Police Station in Udalguri district which has created sensation in the area.
According to reports, the accused, who has been identified as 45-year-old Azgar Ali, who is a mason by profession, was engaged in the Bamunjali area for the past couple of days.
The accused allegedly molested a minor girl of the neighbourhood on Thursday.
Sources said, “As the accused molested the minor girl she made hue and cry. Immediately after hearing the hue and cry, her mother rushed to save the girl in the nick of time.”
As the news of the molestation spread in the area, the locals gathered and the infuriated locals roughed up the accused before handing over him to the Dimakuchi Police Station.
The family members have lodged an FIR at the Dimakuchi Police Station and a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The investigation into the incident has been underway. The heinous crime has evoked strong protest with local student organizations demanding stringent punishment to the accused.
