Guwahati: Assam has intensified its crackdown on corruption, arresting 430 government employees on graft charges since 2019, official records showed.
The documents also confirmed that another 25 officials were taken into custody for amassing assets beyond their known sources of income, and charge sheets have been filed against all of them. Departmental inquiries are currently underway in accordance with government rules.
According to the records, the Assam Policeโs Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing made the highest number of arrests, detaining 302 employees. The Chief Ministerโs Special Vigilance Cell apprehended 88 individuals, while another 40 were arrested at various police stations under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Out of all the arrested government employees, 23 have been removed from service so far.
The documents further stated that โmost of the cases are still at the trial stage,โ and no convictions have been secured yet. Officials also confirmed that charge sheets have been filed against 291 of the arrested employees. Judicial proceedings are in progress, and departmental actions continue as per established procedures.
