The Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress on Tuesday staged protest at Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati against rising incidents of rape of women and girl children across the country, and attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government for its alleged silence in this regard.

The Mahila Congress protestors took out a rally with placards having anti-Modi government slogans. The women protestors shouted slogans like ‘Save women from BJP leaders’, ‘Where is BJP leader Smriti Irani now’, ‘Hang the rapists’, etc.

On the other hand, the Mahila Congress observed the day as ‘Black Day’ in various parts of the country in protest against the rape incidents at Kathua and Unao.

While participating in the protest demonstration in Guwahati on Tuesday, Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress President Shahnaz Yasmin Haque told media persons, “During the regime of the BJP-led government, incidents of crimes against women including killing, rape, kidnapping, in Assam and other parts of the country have been increasing.”

She also claimed that after the Sarbananda Sonowal-led government came to power, the law and order situation in Assam has been disrupted.

Terming the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign of the Narendra Modi government as ‘meaningless’, Assam Mahila Congress President Haque said, “Though there has been involvement of BJP leader in rape incident, Narendra Modi has maintained silence. We will be able to provide education to the daughters only when they can be saved.”

Haque told Modi, “First you save the daughters in the real sense, otherwise resign with immediate effect.”

The Assam Mahila Congress also demanded CBI probe into the Kathua and Unao rape incidents. They also demanded hang to death for the rapists.
