The organised network of human traffickers, which has a palpable presence in Udalguri district, is adopting new tactics to evade arrest.
Acting on a tip off, troops of 37 Bn Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Mangaldai deployed along the Indo-Bhutan border of Udalguri, rescued four youths and a minor from Dimakuchi in Udalguri on Sunday.
The rescued youths including two male and two female had come to take the minor along with them, when the SSB personnel on suspicion interrogated them.
The youths divulged that an agent had lured them of better livelihood and asked them to come up to Rangia to board a train to New Delhi.
As the youths revealed the truth, the SSB personnel took no time to understand that it was nothing but a plan of human traffickers to victimse the village youths who belong to poor financial backgrounds.
The 37 SSB, Mangaldai later took help of the police to hand over the youths to their respective families.
“The minor and the youths were rescued in the nick of time,” a police said.
The rescued youths also stated that the agent had promised of good salary in private clothing factories in the national capital. All of the rescued youths were handed over to their respective families with the help of Dimakuchi Police.
However, the SSB troops couldn’t apprehend anyone in this connection.
