Assam cattle smuggling
According to police sources, the operation was carried out based on specific intelligence about suspicious movement of cattle through the Samaguri area.

Guwahati: A police team from Samaguri Police Station in Assamโ€™s Nagaon district recovered 30 stolen cattle and seized a pickup vehicle used for their illegal transportation during a late-night operation, police officials confirmed on Thursday.

One accused has been arrested for further legal action.

According to police sources, the operation was carried out based on specific intelligence about suspicious movement of cattle through the Samaguri area.

During the check, the police intercepted a pickup vehicle carrying 30 cattle without valid ownership papers, transport permits, or veterinary clearance, raising strong suspicion of organized cattle smuggling.

The accused, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, failed to produce any legal documents related to the cattle or their transportation.

Following preliminary questioning, the police arrested the individual and seized the vehicle under the relevant sections of law.

The recovered cattle have been shifted to a safe location, and necessary procedures are being followed for their protection.

Officials stated that a detailed investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the cattle, their intended destination, and possible links to a larger interstate smuggling network.

Police are also examining whether the theft occurred within Nagaon district or in neighbouring areas.

The incident underscores the ongoing issue of cattle smuggling in Assam, particularly along rural routes.

Despite enforcement drives, illegal cattle trade continues to be a concern for law and order, animal welfare, and border security.
