Nagaon foreigners
Official records from the Office of the District Commissioner, Nagaon, state that these individuals were declared foreigners after failing to prove their Indian citizenship before the tribunals.

Guwahati: Assam’s Nagaon district administration has issued expulsion orders against 15 people officially declared foreigners by various Foreignersโ€™ Tribunals, as part of intensified action under the Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act, 1950.

Official records from the Office of the District Commissioner, Nagaon, state that these individuals were declared foreigners after failing to prove their Indian citizenship before the tribunals.

The affected persons reside in villages under multiple police stations, including Raha, Kaliabor, Samaguri, and Rupahi.

The cases were initiated following a letter (No.?NGN/B/2025/1442, dated November?17, 2025) from the Senior Superintendent of Police, Nagaon.

The expulsion orders instruct the individuals to leave Indian territory within 24 hours of receiving the notice. If they fail to comply, authorities are empowered to carry out their forcible removal from Assam and India.

Under Section 2 of the Immigrants Act, the orders authorize district police, border officials, and administrative officers to execute the removals.

Officials are also instructed to remove the declared foreigners from electoral rolls, cancel their Aadhaar cards, and ensure they do not receive any government benefits.

In a related development, the arrest of Hussain Ali, a resident of Dighali Ati village under Raha police station, has drawn attention. Aliโ€™s wife questioned his detention, stating that he has been a long-time resident of Assam and was arrested โ€œon doubts.โ€ Ali subsequently approached the Gauhati High Court, claiming he was detained without notice from a Foreignersโ€™ Tribunal or any explanation.

The court has issued notices to the Union of India, the Assam government, NRC authorities, the Election Commission, and senior district officials to respond to the legality of his arrest.

Authorities have not officially connected Aliโ€™s case to the 15 individuals named in the expulsion orders. However, the incident has renewed public focus on the enforcement of Foreigners Tribunal verdicts and the importance of following due process.

Officials say the Assam government intends to enforce tribunal decisions fully, instead of just keeping them on paper.
