The 205th edition of the Bhanu Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Nepali Adikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya was celebrated at Bandarguri Lower Primary School in Udalguri on Saturday with a day-long programme.

The programme was jointly organised by the Bandarguri regional committees of Asom Nepali Sahitya
Sabha, Asom Gorkha Sammelan and All Assam Gorkha Students’Union (AAGSU).

The programme was initiated with floral tributes to the poet followed by Ramayana paath (reading) by priest Raghunath Upadhyaya and a poets’ open discourse.

Bhagirath Upadhyaya, a senior retired teacher of the region, chaired the open session where Ram Upadhyaya, general secretary of the Udalguri district committee of ANSS highlighted the significance of the celebration of this auspicious day.

A total of 10 meritorious students who had excelled in the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination, 2018 and the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination 2018 were also felicitated on the
occasion.

Poet and writer Bhanubhakta Acharya (1814 – 1868), translated the great epic the Ramayana from Sanskrit to Khas language.

Born in Chundi Ramgha under Tanahun district of Nepal, he was educated at home with a strong leaning towards religion from his grandfather.
