Two persons have been detained by Jorhat Police for producing fake permit to transport vegetables.

The detained duo has been identified as Noor Ali and Kamaal.

According to police, the duo produced a fake permit issued in the name of additional district magistrate, in-charge of the Kaliabor Sub-division.

From their possession, the police also seized two vehicles, loaded with vegetables, which were carried from Kharupetia in the Darrang district.

The duo was picked up on the basis of an FIR lodged with the Jorhat police station by the sector magistrate of COVID19, S. Baruwati, here on detection of the forged document.

The permit was originally issued by the additional district magistrate, in-charge of Kaliabor Subdivision to one Mofizul Rahman, a vegetable seller of Borghuli village in Kaliabor on March 26.

Rahman was permitted to transport vegetables in two Bolero pick-up vans from Kaliabor to Mokokchung in Nagaland on request of the Mokokchung deputy commissioner until April 13 till the lockdown period is over.

But the original document was forged by the duo.

The forgery was detected as the duo crossed two districts and entered Jorhat.

They were picked up from the vegetable market at Neauville Road in Jorhat.

An official here said the two produced a fake copy of the original one and forged the signature of the additional district magistrate, in-charge of Kaliabor Sub-division.
