Filmmaker Arindam Barooah’s Assamese film ‘Wing One’s Way…’ is all set to be released by August 2021.

Directed and edited by Arindam Barooah, the film was shot at Duliajan in Upper Assam inside a room amid Covid19 pandemic.

Talking to this correspondent, filmmaker Barooah said: “I shot the film at one go. It took 5-6 hours to complete the shooting in one location.”

Barooah informed that the film was shot during September last year.

Regarding the story of the film, Barooah said: “The film on the LGBT issue urges us to come out of the closet and to accept the inner being of a person.”

On the theme of the film, 31-year-old filmmaker Barooah said, “I was always attracted to various genres of films. So, I thought of delving into a serious, sensitive issue. That’s why I thought of doing an LGBT film which is a very sensitive issue as a whole. I thought of making a film on them who have been struggling to make their identities in front of us.”

The cast includes Anisha Dutta and Jahnobi Gogoi.

The film has Khimpi Dutta in screenplay, Khimpi Dutta & Arindam Barooah in dialogues, Bhaskar Jyoti Dutta in cinematography and Rishika Baruah as colourist.

The sound design and poster design have been prepared by Jyoti Chetia and Kunal Borah respectively.

Hailing from Duliajan in Upper Assam, filmmaker Barooah started his filmmaking career in 2014.

He said, “In the year 2014, I actually started transforming my dream of being a filmmaker into existence when I shot my first short movie ‘Eti Notun Prabhat: A New Dawn’ based on love & sacrifice.”

Barooah, who did his my schooling from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Duliajan and completed and graduation in Engineering from Gauhati University, said: “For me, filmmaking is not glamour, it’s actually a learning base for many like me without having any financial support.”

Even before its release, the film ‘Wing One’s Way…’ has already brought laurels to Assam by winning the Best LGBT Short Film award at Port Blair International Film Festival on March 14, 2021.

The film was the finalist at Melbourne Queer Film Festival 2021 on March 11, 2021.

It won Phenomenal Attainment Award at Krimson Horyzon International Film Festival, Kolkata on April 1, 2021.

The film found place in the official selection at Cinemaking International Film Award 2020, Dhaka in Bangladesh on November 13, 2020.

It also found place in the official selections at ICA – International Cultural Artifact Film Festival on December 26, 2020, at 13th International Guwahati Film Festival 2021 in March 2021, at Anatolian Short Film Festival, Istanbul, Turkey on October 29, 2020.

Barooah earlier directed many films and documentaries including ‘Eti Notun Prabhat: A New Dawn’ (August, 2014), ‘Akanksha: An Impassioned Desire (March, 2015)’, ‘Exploring Namphake’ (An emblem of Beauty & Tradition, Documentary – September, 2015), ‘Baandhon’ (In Chains – January, 2016), ‘Bhranti’ (Fallacy Beholds- March, 2016), ‘Endharor Bheta Bhangi…’(Breaking the Cocoon- February, 2018) and ‘Morumaya’ (A Mirage -September, 2018).
