The Christian community under the leadership of the Revered Archbishop of Guwahati Diocese Father John Moolachera and his team called on Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday.
They apprised the Governor of the relief work they are undertaking in the State to give relief and respite to those affected by lockdown in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
Prof Mukhi while taking stock of the relief work and the size of population benefitted from the gesture, appreciated their efforts in reaching out to the poor people hit by the lockdown which has been clamped to stop the spread of the COVID-19 infection.
He also said it is praiseworthy that many philanthropic organizations have voluntarily come out in providing generous services to the mankind.
The Governor also requested the Archbishop to impress upon his group to continue its services in consultation with the deputy commissioners of the respective district to serve the unserved areas as a part of their reach out activities.
The Governor further asked them to strictly follow the guidelines and advisories given by the Government and maintain social distancing and strictly adhere to the norms to contain COVID-19.
The catholic group also reassured their commitment and said they would support the government and render their services in every possible way.
