The Gauhati High Court has issued notice to the Chief Secretary of Assam for failing to institute a judicial commission headed by a retired judge to investigate into anomalies in conducting the recruitment examination by the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC).

Justice AK Goswami issued the notice to Assam’s Chief Secretary after hearing a petition filed by RTI activist Prashant Singha on Friday. The Chief Secretary was asked to file a reply as to why this should not be treated as contempt of court.

It may be mentioned here that the Gauhati High court had asked the Assam government to institute a judicial probe into the anomalies in the APSC examination , which was challenged by Paul in the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court however, dismissed the petition filed by Paul last year on the ground that Paul was the prime accused in the case and was arrested by the police. The RTI activist approached the court as the government was yet to constitute the judicial commission following the 2015 Gauhati High court order.

Meanwhile, Darshana Chetia, Circle Officer Rupahihat in Nagaon district ,was  grilled by Assam Police investigation team in connection with the cash-for-job scam in the APSC.
