Special Director General of Police GP Singh on Tuesday said that a “strong” charge-sheet will be filed against the accused persons of the Animesh Bhuyan lynching case.
GP Singh during his visit to Jorhat said that the investigation over the case is on the right path and all aspects are being investigated.

He added that the police has sufficient witnesses against the accused. Witnesses from both the police and general public have recovered their statements in the court including the policemen who reached the spot to recover the victims.“We even have CCTV footage and seized phones as evidence”, he said.

The senior cop also told the media that all the footage and seized material have been sent for the forensic tests and the entire investigation process will be completed in 10-12 days.

Singh added, “In the first week of January, we will be able to file a strong charge-sheet.”
He also added that Jorhat police have been directed to take strong actions against drugs.

It may be mentioned that on November 29, an All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) leader was killed and a local journalist and a youth were injured when an unruly mob attacked them in upper Assam’s Jorhat town.
A video of a mob attacking AASU leader Animesh Bhuyan and journalist Mridusmanta Baruah has surfaced on social media.
The deceased AASU leader was a resident of Dergaon in Golaghat district while journalist Baruah works with a private TV channel.
