Guwahati: In view of the prevailing extreme cold weather conditions, the Kamrup (Metropolitan) district administration has ordered the temporary closure of all government and provincialised schools in Guwahati for one week to safeguard the health and safety of students.
According to an official advisory issued to all Heads of Schools by Kamrup (M) Inspector od Schools, educational institutions under the government and provincialised category will remain closed from December 31, 2025, to January 6, 2026. The decision has been taken with the approval of the District Commissioner, Kamrup (Metropolitan).
School authorities have been instructed to inform students, parents, and staff about the closure and ensure that no academic or co-curricular activities are conducted during this period.
Heads of Schools have also been asked to make necessary arrangements for the smooth resumption of classes after reopening.
The advisory further stated that any additional instructions, if required, will be communicated in due course.
Meanwhile, private schools have been advised to take their own decisions regarding closure, keeping the interests and well-being of students in mind.
Guwahati on Tuesday (December 30) recorded a minimum temperature of 14 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 19 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in the city on Wednesday is likely to hover around 13 degrees Celsius.
