Guwahati: A report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) released on Wednesday, May 13, has found that all five ministers in the newly formed Assam cabinet are crorepatis, and one minister has reported a criminal case in his election affidavit.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who was sworn in for a second consecutive term on Tuesday, took oath along with four other legislators, BJP leaders Rameswar Teli and Ajanta Neog, AGP MLA Atul Bora, and BPF MLA Charan Boro.
As per the ADR findings, Atul Bora is the only minister who has declared a criminal case against himself. The case is related to Section 409 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with criminal breach of trust involving public servants and other officials.
The report further stated that every member of the cabinet has declared assets of over Rs 1 crore. Among them, Chief Minister Sarma has the highest declared wealth at more than Rs 35 crore, along with liabilities exceeding Rs 16 crore.
On average, the declared assets of the five ministers amount to Rs 10.99 crore, according to the analysis.
In terms of education, four ministers have reported qualifications of graduation or above, while one minister has stated having studied up to Class 10.
The new Assam cabinet includes only one woman minister, Ajanta Neog.
