The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP) has decided to approach the Supreme Court seeking directive from the top court to the government for introduction of Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in Assam.
The AJYCP said that for protecting the indigenous communities from “external infiltration and internal aggression”, ILP is the need of the hour.

AJYCP general secretary Palash Changmai told reporters in Guwahati that the formalities on the part of the youth body have been completed and the legal procedure would be started when the apex court opens on January 5.
“Had the government been politically farsighted and resolute to protect the indigenous communities, decisions like ILP or land protection would have been taken at state level, instead of following the Centre’s diktat,” he said.
“On the other hand, when ILP was granted to Manipur on December 11, the possibility of extending this provision to Assam totally ended through the Adaptation of Laws (Amendment) Order, 2019. Our legal battle will challenge this step of the Union government,” Changmai added.

Criticising the government for applying force to suppress the democratic movement against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, the youth body flayed police high-handedness on the protesters showing black flags to the chief minister and other BJP leaders.
“Two of our activists have been detained under the National Security Act and the BJP leaders still repeat that they respect democratic opposition to the CAA,” AJYCP president RP Barua said.
Reacting to chief ninister Sarbananda Sonowal’s comments on the New Year’s Day, Barua said the people of Assam were befooled by emotional speeches and false promises of BJP leaders in 2014.
“If Sonowal is on the people’s side, he should take a stand against the CAA, without fearing for his post or position,” they said.
The next series of protests by AJYCP activists will start from January 4 with torch rallies across the State.
On January 8, all district committees of the AJYCP will organise protest rallies, while on January 11, black day will be observed for “snatching the right to introduce ILP in Assam”.
On January 12, tribute would be paid to the martyrs of anti-CAA stir through all-faith prayers.
On December 13, on the day of the special session of the State Assembly, a mass sit-in demonstration will be staged at Dispur Last Gate.
