The Cachar district administration in Assam has declared Sonai revenue circle’s border area with Mizoram as “no drone zone”.

The announcement was made in an order passed by Cachar deputy commissioner Keerthi Jalli.

The order was passed “in view of security threats posed due to recent drone attacks by various miscreants and anti-social elements which may endanger human life, property and public breach of tranquillity and peace.”

Earlier, the Kolasib district administration in Mizoram had declared as many as eight areas along the sensitive Assam-Mizoram border as “no drone zone”.

Notably, the state governments in Assam and Mizoram have been trying to de-escalate the tensions between the two states over the last couple of days.

Border tensions between Assam and Meghalaya were at its peak last week following a bloody clash that claimed the lives of six Assam police personnel and a civilian.

Many people on both sides also sustained injuries in the clash.
