The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), NDFB (P) and People’s Joint Action Committee for Bodoland Movement (PJACBM) on Tuesday organized a massive rally demanding the creation of a separate state of Bodoland in the North Bank of the Brahmaputra under Article 2 and 3 of the Constitution.

The rally was organised at Kashikotra in western Assam’s Chirang district and was addressed by ABSU president Pramod Boro, NDFB (P) president Govinda Basumatary and PJACBM leader Rakesh Boro.

Hailing the centre’s decision of bifurcating J & K and Ladakh and forming two union territories, the leaders of the organizations demanded early solution to the long-pending demand of creation of separate Bodoland.

“We call upon the Government to exercise the same political will and urgency in dealing with the other long pending statehood demand like Bodoland,” the organizations said in a joint statement.

“The Bodoland demand is one of the oldest demands in the country even than the Telangana which has formed in 2014,” they added.

They said the Bodo movement has experienced a bloody chapter of its movement by losing more than 5000 innocent lives of Bodo people and not less than 20000 Bodo people has been jailed in the 50 years of Bodoland movement.

“But the irony of the fact is that despite of having all justification & criteria the demand has not been conceded by the successive Government so far which is not only an injustice but also gross violation of the
spirit of the Article 2 & 3 of the constitution of India.

“We appeal the Union Government to make policy decision without farther delay to create those new states and make these regions also felt the essence of Sabka Saath Sabka Bikash and Sabka Biswash by Prime Minister,” said the pro-separate state organizations.
