Demanding an early solution to the Bodoland issue, the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has called for a 10-day economic blockade in January. The student body has also announced a 24-hour national highway blockade in December.
“We want solution of the Bodoland issue at the earliest. We had organized several tripartite talks with the government but there was no result. We are dissatisfied with the lackluster attitude of the government towards the issue,” said ABSU president Pramod Boro.
The ABSU, NDFB (P) and PJACBM have jointly organized a mass dharna in Delhi’s Ramlila Ground on Tuesday in support of their demand.
“The slogan ‘Divide Assam 50:50’ has again been chanted in India’s national capital. Create the Bodoland State from Sankosh river on the northern bank of Brahmaputra…ensure political and land rights of the Boro people living outside of the proposed Bodoland area under the provision of the Constitution of India,” said Boro.
In support of the Bodoland demand, the ABSU, NDFB (P) and PJACBM will organize a massive rally from Rajghat to Parliament Street before submitting their memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “We will submit a letter with five lakh signatures in blood in support of our demand to the Honourable Prime Minister,” said Boro.
“The present government at the Centre headed by Narendra Modi who promised to resolve the Boro problem during the election campaign of 2014 has forgotten his tall promises. The government of Assam which came to power by giving promises of protecting jati (native people), mati (land) and bheti (foundation of society), too has forgotten their promises, instead they are more interested in inviting more and more Hindu Bangladeshis,” pointed out Boro.
