The North Lakhimpur unit of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on Wednesday took out a protest rally in Lakhimpur against the Assam government and its party leaders.

The agitators accused the leaders of pushing the identity of the Assamese people towards extinction by supporting the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, which was cleared by the Centre on Wednesday.

Members and supporters of AASU took out a procession and raised slogans against the Chief Minister and several other leaders.

Naks made out from the photographs of CM Sarbananda Sonowal, finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, state BJP president Ranjit Dass, irrigation minister Atul Bora and water resource minister Keshab Mahanta.

The AASU protestors condemned the AGP leaders for supporting the proposed Bill and kneeling down before the BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Later, effigies of the five leaders were also burnt by the protestors.

They further said that AASU and the indigenous people of Assam will continue its movement against CAB.
