Water is the most essential element of life but people of Semkhor village in the Dima Hasao district of Assam are struggling to fetch themselves sufficient drops of this essential element.
At a time when the urban sectors of Assam are undergoing rapid development, villagers are Semkhor are dependent on the water that drips from the mountain and gathers in pits, say reports.
The villagers who say that they drink water from the mountains commute more than one kilometre everyday to find themselves some clean water.

They also inform that they do not have arrangements like tube well or anything provided by the government.
“Availability of water is a major problem for us. We have contacted the government department and requested them to solve our crisis but no one has done anything yet,” mentioned Khurabi, another resident of Semkhor.
The villagers also informed that the Modi led government has constructed toilets but there is no provision of water in them.
“It is very difficult to search for water. We do not even get water to take bath,” said a woman.
