The general manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Sanjive Roy, has decided to award 9 railway staff members in ensuing Independence Day celebration for preventing train mishaps.

The 9 railway staff members to be awarded are from various divisions under NFR.

It may be mentioned that on May 29, 2019 at 5.58 am, Bikash Mandal, track maintainer, Barpeta Road under Rangiya division while performing track patrolling duty detected “rain cut” at KM 292/9 – 293/0 between Barpeta Road-Sorbhog stations.

Bikash Mandal immediately protected the track and stopped train No-55801 (Manas Rhino Passenger).

“Due to his alertness and devotion towards duty a probable mishap could be averted,” informed P. J. Sharma,  chief public relations officer, NFR.

On May 31, 2019, B.C. Boro, driver and P.K. Das, assistant driver, both from Lumding division while working on train No. 12424 (Rajdhani Express) detected “wrong setting of points” at Dhalpukhuri station and immediately controlled the train.

Due to their alertness a probable derailment was averted.

Mukesh Kumar, driver & Jitendra Kumar, assistant driver, both from Tinsukia division, while working on train No-75901, on June 8, 2019 noticed elephant movement on the track at KM 14/9 – 15/0 between Tingrai – Digboi stations.

“They immediately controlled the train by applying emergency brake. Thus elephant dashing and a probable mishap was averted,” stated Goswami.

Ranjit Nag, track maintainer, while working as key man on June 5, 2019 between Rajabhatkhawa – Alipurduar Junction station noticed smoke coming out from a wagon of Up goods train and immediately informed station manager of Alipurduar.

During checking, brake blocks of 3 wagons were found heavily jammed which were later rectified. Due to his alertness and timely action, a probable mishap was averted.

Heera Kumar, assistant driver under Tinsukia division while working on train No 12423 (Rajdhani Express) in the intervening night of June 7 and June 8, 2019  noticed a big “tree fallen on the track” at KM 373/8-6 between Nakachari– Mariani stations. He immediately arranged to stop the train by applying emergency brake and saved a probable disaster.

Sudhir Kumar, driver and Vivekanand Yadav, assistant driver, while working train No-HDCG container on June 26, 2019 suddenly noticed a big tree fallen on railway electrification wire in the track in face of his train at 2.09 pm while entering Eklakhi station under Katihar division.

“They immediately applied the emergency brake and controlled his train just ahead the obstruction and informed Station Manager, Eklakhi. Due to their alertness a probable mishap was averted,” the NFR CPRO stated.
