Nine more positive patients have succumbed to COVID19 infections in Assam on Tuesday, taking the state’s death toll to 315.

Confirming the news, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in his latest tweet on the state’s COVID19 status said: “Very sad & anguished to inform that 9 more COVID19 positive patients have succumbed to the disease.”

The deceased are from Jorhat, Hojai, Nalbari, Dhemaji, Karimganj and Dibrugarh districts.

Jorhat district has reported two COVID19 deaths while Hojai district has reported 3 COVID19 deaths.

The COVID19 victims from Jorhat district have been identified as 68-year-old Bulindra Nath Borah and 58-year-old Tirtha Gogoi.

The victims from Hojai district, who died of the disease, have been identified as 39-year-old Papri Nandi, 54-year-old Mantosh Roy and 45-year-old Nazrul Islam.

The other victims have been identified as 75-year-old Keshab Ch Das from Nalbari; 45-year-old Pranita Bharali from Dhemaji; 75-year-old Himangshu Sengupta from Karimganj and 72-year-old Subal Dey from Dibrugarh.

“My condolences to all the families. We stand by you in this hour of grief,” health minister Sarma said.

On Monday, Assam registered 3,266 new COVID19 positive cases, taking the state’s overall tally to 1,09,040.

On Monday, Assam’s positivity rate stood at 7.26%.

Till date, a total of 83,927 patients have been discharged from various hospitals or Covid Care Centres across Assam after their recovery.

With the demise of 9 more patients, Assam currently has 24,795 active cases.
