Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said a total of 48,557 Anganwadi centres and 13,321 LP schools in the state will be provided power connections by December 2021.

Chief minister Sarma in a tweet said the decision in this regard was taken during a meeting with senior officials of 3 power companies –  Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL), Assam Electricity Grid Corporation Limited (AEGCL) & Assam Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGCL).

During the meeting, held at Bijulee Bhawan in Guwahati, chief minister Sarma reviewed the functioning of the three power companies in the state.

“Held a meeting with senior officials of 3 power companies APDCL, AEGCL & APGCL at Bijulee Bhawan and reviewed their functioning,” chief minister Sarma tweeted.

Chief minister Sarma said it was decided during the meeting that tea garden labourers and BPL consumers will not be imposed 20% surcharge and their arrear bills can be paid in 10 instalments.

He also said: “48557 Anganwadi Centres and 13321 LP Schools will be provided power connections by December, 2021.”

“All government offices’ power bills will be paid from one global head by 1st of every month to APDCL,” the Assam CM wrote on his Twitter handle.

He said steps will be taken to minimise revenue loss of nearly Rs 102 crore, which occurs every month due to theft, transmission loss, etc.

“There has been an increase of Rs 300 cr in revenue collection by APDCL in July this year,” the Assam CM claimed.
