Assam has registered 4,593 new COVID19 positive cases on Wednesday, taking the state’s overall tally to 68,999.

Confirming the news, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in his latest tweet on the state’s COVID19 status said the new positive cases have been detected out of 1,43,109 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

“Alert ~ 4593 COVID cases detected out of 1,43,109 ~ maximum tests done in a single day with positivity rate just 3.20%,” health minister Sarma said.

Of the positive cases detected on Wednesday, Kamrup Metro has reported 632 cases, Kamrup Rural has reported 460 cases, 335 cases have been detected in Nagaon and 265 cases have been detected in Dibrugarh district.

With the new cases, the active cases in Assam increased to 23,762 on Wednesday.

A total of 45,073 patients, who were earlier infected by COVID19, have been discharged from various hospitals or Covid Care Centres across Assam after their recovery.

Six more positive patients have succumbed to COVID19 infections in Assam on Wednesday, taking the state’s death toll to 161.

Confirming the news, health minister Sarma in an earlier tweet on the day said: “Six #COVID patients have succumbed to their infections.”

Sarma informed that the COVID19 victims are from Cachar, Karimganj, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh and Kamrup Metro districts.

The COVID19 victims have been identified as 70-year-old Himangshu Dey from Cachar, 49-year-old Debabrata Choudhury from Karimganj, 56-year-old Dhaneswar Sharma from Dhemaji, 53-year-old Biswajit Ghosh & 60-year-old Mahesh Baruah from Dibrugarh, and 58-year-old MI Hussain from Kamrup Metro, Sarma said.
