People of Dima Hasao with the rest of the country are virtually proud to be citizens of the great Indian nation.
On the eve of the 72nd Independence Day, the 43 Assam Rifles paid the Guard of Honour to freedom fighter Veer Sambudhan Phonglo on Tuesday in front of the statue of Veer Sambudhan Phonglo located in the heart of Haflong town.
The programme was also attended by Amitabh Rajkhowa, Deputy Commissioner, Dima Hasao and Prasanta Saikia, Superintendent of Police, Dima Hasao as well as Col. Sumit Sood, Commandant, 43 Assam Rifles accompanied by Army officers besides SC Longmailai (retired IAS officer), JNH general secretary Frazer Sengyung, president of DSU, and DSU general secretary Pramith Sengyung, Gaon Burha of Dibarai Haflong, John Poithong, social activist from Hrangkhol, different community leaders and other dignitaries.
The Guard of Honour from 43 Assam Rifles was followed by paying tribute to the statue of Veer Sambudhan Phonglo led by Deputy Commissioner, SP, Commanding Officer of 43 Assam Rifles accompanied by Army officers, SC Longmailai (retired IAS officer), JNH general secretary Frazer Sengyung and other dignitaries present.
Earlier, SC Longmailai explained the life of Veer Sambudhan Phonglo, how he had sacrificed his life for the cause of the freedom of India.
The Deputy Commissioner, Dima Hasao, also delivered speech on the occasion.
Further, Frazer Sengyung described the life sketch of Veer Sambudhan Phonglo.
Pramith Sengyung informed that programme of paying tribute to the statue of freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu located at Boro Haflong will also be held.
Anil Kumar Daulagupu, chairman, Haflong Town Committee, paid homage to Veer Sambudhan Phonglo and followed by officers and staff members of Haflong Town Committee.
