530 villages in 24 revenue circles under 11 districts of Assam affected in the second wave of flood

At least three people died in flood and landslide related incidents across Assam in the last 24 hours even as 530 villages in eleven districts are reeling under flood waters till Wednesday.

This was informed by officials of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Wednesday.

While two persons — one each died at Golaghat and Dhemaji due to flood, one person died due to landslide in Guwahati on Wednesday morning.

“A total 530 villages in 24 revenue circles in Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Darrang, Barpeta, Nalbari, Chirang, Golaghat, Majuli, Jorhat and Dibrugarh districts of Assam have been affected in the second wave of flood,” the officials.

The officials also said a total of 2,07,098 people have been affected by flood on Wednesday.

The reports of the Central Water Commission (CWC) indicated that river Brahmaputra in Jorhat and Sonitpur, Dikhou in Sivasagar, Dhansiri in Golaghat, Jia Bharali in Sonitpur and Beki in Barpeta districts are flowing above danger level.

The state government has also pressed into service the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams to help in rescue and evacuation operation as well as to help the civil administration in the flood affected areas.

Presently, 13 relief camps are operational in Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Golaghat and Jorhat districts with 249 inmates.

A total of 10 relief distribution centres have been set up in the districts of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Golaghat and Jorhat districts, the ASDMA officials added.

The flood situation is expected to worsen in next few days as the meteorological department has predicted more rainfall for Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland in the next four days.
