This year’s Social Leader of the Year Award has been conferred on environment Dr Pranab Jyoti Patar for his contribution to the social and environmental spheres at the national level.

Despite being an environmentalist, Dr Patar, who has made significant strides in the social field, has been instrumental in providing humanitarian assistance during disasters (especially during Covid19 and floods), skills development and alternative livelihoods for women empowerment, environmental education and awareness.

The bank was able to collect more than 1.7 million pieces of bread during the Covid lockdown and fed 3.5 million hungry people.

Apart from this, his special initiative, Medicine Bank has distributed 200 kgs of medicine free of cost to the people of flood-hit areas of Assam and Bihar.

Dr Patar’s name was selected for the award by a jury formed with Renu Sud Karnad, Managing Director, HDFC Bank (Jury Chairman), Dr. Bhaskar Chatterjee, former DG, Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA); Kamal Bali, Kamal Bali, President and Managing Director, Volvo Group India and Geeta Goel, Country Director, Michael & Susan Dell Foundation.

Dr. Pranab was selected as the ‘Social Leader of the Year’ for his outstanding work in the field of socio-environmental issues.

It is learned that Dr. Pranab Jyoti Patar is the first person from Northeast India to receive this award.

Due to the pandemic, the award was presented in an online event on December 9, 2021.
