Assam police has arrested a member of the Darrang Zila Parishad on charges of gang rape.
Officer-in-Charge of Dhula Police Station – Kalyan Bora informed has that on November 25, they received a complaint from a woman that Humayun Kabir, a resident of Raja Pukhuri Bagicha along with his brother Safikul Rahman and two others had gang raped her.
Later, police collected evidence against Kabir which led to his arrest.
“We have arrested him in connection with the case no 366 /21 u/s 376 (D) / 506 of Indian Penal Code and today remanded him to judicial custody through the court,” police souces informed.

The sources also informed that the Zila Parishad member has also been charged with occupying the areas measuring almost 136 bighas, near the historical Raja Pukhuri, with forged documents.
Locals claim that Kabir, who was a former president of the district Youth Congress, won the Syamtila Zila Parishad seat as an independent using money strength.
Meanwhile, the three other accused in the gang rape case are absconding till filing of this report.
