Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said the team of the state’s health department has achieved an impressive milestone by conducting 1 lakh COVID19 tests so far.
Health minister Sarma announced that the state’s health department has targeted to conduct 2 lakh COVID19 tests by June 15.

“I am extremely proud of my team for achieving an impressive milestone of completing 1 lakh COVID testing. By June 15, we’ll complete 2 lakh tests,” said health minister Sarma while addressing a press conference at the state office of the National Health Mission (NHM) in Guwahati on Sunday.
He also lauded the health department for achieving this feat and demonstrating remarkable team work and discipline.
Sarma informed that as on May 31, 2020, a total of 100,483 COPVID tests have been conducted in the laboratories of Assam different medical college hospitals and ICMR- Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) in Dibrugarh.

He informed that of the total tests, only 4,033 have been outsourced.
The health minister said a total of 12,732 tests have been conducted at Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH), 9,111 tests have been conducted at Silchar Medical College Hospital (SMCH), 22,052 tests have been conducted at Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH).
He also said 5,146 tests have been conducted at Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH), 12,450 tests have been conducted at Tezpur Medical College Hospital (TMCH), 22,054 tests have been conducted at Barpeta’s FAAMCH and 12,905 tests have been conducted at RMRC, Dibrugarh.
Sarma said while it had taken 51 days to touch the mark of 157 COVID19 positive cases in Assam, but it took just 4 days to increase the number of positive cases from 157 to 346.
He also said it took only 3 days to increase the state’s COVID19 positive cases’ tally from 346 to 642 and it took just 4 days to increase the count from 642 to 1216.
He also informed that there is no case of community transmission so far and all the cases have come from the quarantine centres.
Minister Sarma said the maximum numbers of the positive cases are from Hojai district.
“A total of 177 people from Hojai have tested positive for the virus followed by Golaghat with 160 infected patients while 134 cases are reported from Kamrup Metro,” said Sarma at the pres conference.
