Noted Assam singer Zubeen Garg, who has been vocal against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, has decided to observe ‘Sankalpar Din’ (Resolution Day) on January 17, 2019 at Tezpur.
It may be mentioned that every year, Shilpi Divas is celebrated as a tribute to Assam’s cultural icon Jyoti Prasad Agarwalla marking his death anniversary.
Uploading a promo of the programme to be organised at the Collegiate High School playground in Tezpur of Sonitpur district, on his Facebook page on Tuesday, Zubeen Garg stated: “In the name of Assam, let us all unite!!”
According to the promo, demanding scrapping of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and for maintaining harmony among various communities, singer Zubeen Garg has called for observing ‘Sankalpar Din’ (Resolution Day) on the day of Shilpi Divas, on January 17, 2019.
The ‘Sankalpar Din’ programme will be held at 3.30 pm at Collegiate High School playground in Tezpur.
The singing sensation of Assam, on January 13, 2019 on his Twitter handle stated: “So, can I get the votes back that you earned using my voice in 2016?,” adding, “I am ready to refund the remuneration.”
Zubeen Garg composed ‘Sokolure Ananda Satbananda’ (Sarbananda, everyone’s happiness), which was the official election campaign for Assam BJP in 2016 Assembly polls.
Earlier, Zubeen Garg had written a letter to Assam Chief Minister Sonowal where he lashed out at the CM for supporting the controversial Bill.
The singer wrote in the letter: “The Citizenship Bill will never be accepted. I have been hearing since my childhood that Bangladeshis will be weeded out of Assam and it saddens me that the people who were a part of the agitation against illegal foreigners are now part of the government and pushing for the passage of the Bill.”
The singer also said he is saddened to see that Sarbananda Sonowal, who was once called ‘Jatiya Nayak’, is now given the tag of ‘Jatiya Khalnayak.’
