In the case of a suspected honour killing, two persons have been arrested for allegedly killing a young businessman in Western Assam’s Goalpara district.
According to police, Ashraf Ali, who received serious injuries on his head when armed miscreants fired at him on Thursday, died at a Guwahati based hospital.
The miscreants attacked Asraf, who married a girl from Kampur in Nagaon district three months back, when he was returning home from his shop at Krishnai Market in Goalpara.
The arrested persons have been identified as Subhash Roy and Jyotish Roy. Subhash is suspected to be the prime accused in the case. Ashraf’s wife has pointed the needle of suspicion to her mother in the incident.
“My mother has killed my husband. She is involved in this. She was dead against our marriage,” said Ashraf’s wife and broke down.
She further revealed that her mother Labanya Borah had threatened earlier of killing her husband by supari killers. Sources further revealed that the victim’s wife was forcefully taken back two times to her parents’ house after the marriage. However, she came back every time and stayed with Ashraful who had a mobile store at Krishnai Market.
“We are investigating into the case and keeping all options and all probable reasons open besides taking the allegations of the victim’s wife into account,” Goalpara SP Amitava Sinha told Northeast Now.
The All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) has demanded Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia to the bereaved family.
