Along with the rest of Assam, immersion of Durga idols took place in Sivasagar on Tuesday evening.

The immersion began at 1 pm at the Thanaghat of Dikhow River in a peaceful and disciplined manner.

The first idol to be immersed in the river was that of the historic Devidol.

The immersion witnessed footfalls of thousands at the site along with the banks of Dikhow River.

The Sivasagar district and police administration had made elaborate arrangement of security and discipline to conduct the immersion smoothly.

The immersion was conducted amid all religious fervour and gaiety.

To avert any untoward incident during the immersion, apart from security forces, a strong team of civil defence and SDRF were put into action at the site.

The entire immersion process was supervised by Sivasagar deputy commissioner Dr M S Lakshmi Priya, superintendent of police Amitava Sinha, additional deputy commissioner Nawab Al Alhaj Ali, district information and public relations officer Syeda Hasnahana among other officials of the district and police administration.

At the conclusion, the deputy commissioner expressed her gratitude to one and all for the smooth conduct of the immersion process.

Notably, a ramp at the immersion site was earlier constructed at the initiative of Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa.
