The deputy commissioner of eastern Assam’s Sivasagar district Dr S Lakshmanan reviewed the progress and status of various schemes and projects being implemented in the district on Tuesday.
The montly meeting of the District Development Committee (DDC) was held at Sukafa Conference Hall of deputy commissioner’s office.

During the meeting held in presence of the additional deputy commissioner and district development commissioner (i/c) Joonmoni Sonowal, the officers of various government departments thoroughly briefed in the meeting about the progress of the welfare schemes and projects being implemented under their departments.
The deputy commissioner after reviewing the progress instructed the PWD Rural Roads and State Roads Division to ensure the quality of the roads during construction.

He stated that it will have a positive impact in reducing the risk of road accidents and ensure safety of human lives and property.
The deputy commissioner advised the Health, Social Welfare, Education, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary, Irrigation and other line departments to work in proper coordination and spread mass awareness about Japanese Encephalitis in the district.
He also directed all government departments to plant saplings in their office campus in connection with the Van Mahotsav.
He suggested that the Social Forestry division should come up and support the initiative by providing saplings of various species to these departments.
During his speech, the deputy commissioner stressed on the need of inter-departmental support and expertise for examining the technical aspects of the detailed project report (DPR) to be prepared for the works to be implemented under CIDF with a total cost of Rs 100 crore.
Dr Lakshmanan also directed the PWD Building and Roads division to start in advance the field improvement works of the Boarding Field where the central function of Independence Day, 2019 will be held.
He viewed that the improvement of the field is deemed essential for celebrating the day in a befitting manner.
The deputy commissioner advised various departments such as Soil Conservation, Water Resources, Forest etc to take serious steps for water conservation showing wholehearted support to the appeal of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the cause.
Further, he suggested that the departments like PWD Building should keep in mind the matter of water conservation and keep provision for water reservoir and rain water harvesting while taking up new construction projects.
Expressing concern over the load shedding issue, the deputy commissioner called on the Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) to maintain regular supply of power in the district to the best extend possible, especially in the hospitals and emergency services.
The additional deputy commissioner and district development commissioner (i/c) Joonmoni Sonowal suggested the Forest and Soil Conservation departments to undertake massive plantation drives in the reserve forest areas of the district.
She viewed that this initiative will be effective in curbing the human-animal conflict in the region.
The DDC further directed the Excise department to take strong initiatives to put a stop to the sale, stock, distribution and transportation of illicit liquor in the state.
She also instructed to intensify the drives against illicit liquor and ensured full support of the district administration in their moves.
