Sivasagar joined in merriment of Bhogali Bihu amid traditional fervour along with the rest of Assam.
A two-day Bhogali Utsav was organized at Lalimsiga of Amguri in the district that concluded on Tuesday.
A magnificent bhelaghar which was a replica of the Bogibeel Bridge was constructed on the occasion by the locals of the region.
The local residents after indulging in a sumptuous Uruka feat on the previous night traditionally lighted up the meji early Tuesday morning and invoked the fire god seeking blessings for peace and prosperity in the entire State.
Later, traditional Bihu delicacies were distributed among the assembled locals.
During the day, various indigenous games and sports were organized where enthusiastic locals, both young and old took part.
A cultural evening was also organized later in the evening. The cultural nite was inaugurated by eminent entrepreneur and an active cultural activist from Gaurisagar, Jitu Dutta.
Speaking on the occasion, Dutta urged one and all to maintain the age-old tradition of unity and integrity among all sections of the people.
Several acclaimed artistes along with some promising locals performed during the cultural evening.
