A sensitization programme on the laws relating to the protection of the women and children was arranged on Saturday for the newly elected panchayat members of the Goalpara district of Lower Assam at the Balijana based district panchayat resource centre operating under the Kahikuchi extension office of the State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD).
Different essential laws like Juvenile Justice Care and Protection Act 2015, Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences 2012 and Domestic Violence act 2005 were discussed in the programme.
“We have emphasized upon teaching techniques which can help prevent human trafficking, child abuse, child marriage, child protection and protection of women in the panchayats,” informed S Ahmed, member, Juvenile Justice Board of Goalpara district.
Phuleswar Saharia, faculty member and centre in charge said, “The sensitization programme was the part of the five days training to the new members of five gaon panchayats under Kuchdhowa and Krishnai development blocks. We have also taught them the panchayat laws, MGNREGA Act etc.”
