Gross anomalies in the implementation of MGNREGA scheme in Lakhimpur district have been alleged by local residents here.
Local residents alleged that workers sans job cards have been engaged in the construction of an agriculture dyke at Na-Kadam Gaon Panchayat under Bogeenadi Rural Development Block in northern Assam’s Lakhimpur district.
“The project has already been completed but the workers who were engaged in the work don’t have job card,” said a local.
Constructed at the cost of Rs. 7.99 lakhs, the agriculture dyke was to be constructed from Haridas to Berkep through the banks of the stream Kanaijaan.
However, in the information board the stretch of construction work of the dyke is mentioned from Hijalarguri to Madhavpur, which is shorter than the projected work, alleged local residents.
They alleged the construction of the agriculture dyke under the MGNREGA scheme was carried out using heavy machineries like excavators and earth movers without engaging the job card holders.
An amount of Rs. 5, 59,375.00 meant for job card holders for this work has also been released so far.
The locals alleged that some middlemen use to withdraw the amounts from the savings bank accounts of the job card holders by paying a meager portion of it to the actual card holders.
