Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal is also scheduled to reach Silchar on Friday evening.

In all likelihood, Sonowal will have a round of discussion on various issues, especially, CAB and NRC, with the RSS chief, informed sources.

Meanwhile, North East Linguistic & Ethnic Coordination Committee (NELECC) has chalked out to meet the RSS chief to press for the Gazette notification issued on September 7, 2015.

The gazette allows any religious minorities from neighbouring countries of Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan, persecuted out there, to come to India even without any valid documents. This notification, however, though, is not applicable in the state of Assam.

Chief advisor of NELECC and one whose name is not in the NRC list, Santanu Naik, speaking to Northeast Now, said, “A delegation of NELECC would meet RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat on September 30 next, before his departure from Silchar.”

“They will apprise him of the pangs and anguish of the people of this region owing to names being left out of NRC,” Naik added.

He also said, “We have on September 21 last met in Silchar Santa Kumari, the chief of Sevika Samiti, the women’s wing of the RSS, and appealed to raise this issue of implementing this Gazette Notification in Assam as well at the national level.”
