Rastriya Swayamsewak Sangh’s (RSS) Sarsanghchalak (chief), Mohan Bhagwat would reach Silchar in Assam on Friday afternoon.

Keeping his three-day trip to Silchar in mind, the district administration and the police officials have beefed up security at Vivekananda Kendriya Vidyalaya in Ramnagar on the outskirts of Silchar.

Keshav Sadan, the RSS’s headquarters in Silchar town, where Mohan Bhagwat would spend the night during his stay, has also been fortified with maximum security.

The organization’s sources informed, in his three-day trip to Silchar, he would only have sessions with various RSS units of the whole of Northeast.

No public gathering or addressing any public gathering, or even meeting the press, is in his itinerary.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal is also scheduled to reach Silchar on Friday evening.

In all likelihood, Sonowal will have a round of discussion on various issues, especially, CAB and NRC, with the RSS chief, informed sources.

Meanwhile, North East Linguistic & Ethnic Coordination Committee (NELECC) has chalked out to meet the RSS chief to press for the Gazette notification issued on September 7, 2015.

The gazette allows any religious minorities from neighbouring countries of Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan, persecuted out there, to come to India even without any valid documents. This notification, however, though, is not applicable in the state of Assam.

Chief advisor of NELECC and one whose name is not in the NRC list, Santanu Naik, speaking to Northeast Now, said, “A delegation of NELECC would meet RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat on September 30 next, before his departure from Silchar.”

“They will apprise him of the pangs and anguish of the people of this region owing to names being left out of NRC,” Naik added.

He also said, “We have on September 21 last met in Silchar Santa Kumari, the chief of Sevika Samiti, the women’s wing of the RSS, and appealed to raise this issue of implementing this Gazette Notification in Assam as well at the national level.”
