Guwahati: With unprecedented rainfall lashing Arunachal Pradesh’s Namsai and Changlang districts, troops of the Assam Rifles are carrying out rescue and relief operations in the villages devastated by the floods.
The central paramilitary force has launched ‘Operation Saviour’ to rescue the stranded villagers and provide relief to the flood-affected people, Defence PRO Guwahati, Lt Col Mahendra Rawat, said.

Working ceaselessly and reaching out to the far-flung villages, personnel of the Assam Rifles have so far rescued nearly 500 people stranded in their homes, he said.
Several villages, including Bijoypur, Dharampur, Mudoi, Shrishtipur, Hanthi Mara Beel and Chowkham, have been severely hit by the floods, he added.
The Assam Rifles has set up temporary camps and shelters for the villagers displaced due to the deluge. The Assam Rifles referred to as the ‘Sentinels of the Northeast,’ is coordinating closely with the civil administration to provide emergency food, rations and medicines to the flood victims, he said.

Lt Col Rawat further informed that the paramilitary force has deployed extra personnel and resources to speed up its rescue and relief operations.
