A long standing demand of the people of Golaghat in eastern for a stoppage of Rajdhani Exprees at Furkating junction has at last being resolved.
Various organizations of the district including All Assam Students Union (AASU), traders’ body and the public have been demanding the stoppage of Rajdhani Express, one of the fastest passenger trains in the country since a long time.
“We thank the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) authority for their endeavor for giving the stoppage. We had earlier performed rail roko programme demanding the stoppage. At last the prayer is answered,” said Prince Doley, secretary of Golaghat unit of AASU.
Situated at a distance of eight kilometer from the district headquarter, Furkating is the nearest station to Kaziranga National Park (KNP) as well as other tourist spots in Golaghat and neighbouring Nagaland.
The stoppage for Rajdhani Express would help tourists visiting the park to get down at the nearest point by train. Besides, Numaligarh Refinery Limited located at a distance of 25 km from Golaghat provides substantial income to the railways as the end products of the refinery are moved to markets through railways.
The NFR headquarter in Maligaon through the message sent to its Lumding division has informed that train number 20505/20506 Dibrugarh Town – New Delhi Rajdhani Express to be provided with two minutes stoppage at Furkating junction with immediate effect.
