The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has made considerable improvement in operational efficiency during last one year adopting a policy of optimal utilization of available resources.

As indicated by four different parameters, the utilization of available resources like train engines and wagons have improved leading to overall improvement of performances.

“The Total Train Engine Kilometre (TTEK), which reflect the amount of total traffic moved have increased from 20.92 in 2017-18 to 22.58 in 2018-19 (till October),” stated Pranav Jyoti Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer, NFR, in a press communique.

Similarly, the Engine Kilometre per Engine day (EKE) –  which is the representative value of the total kilometre an engine is run on an average – has also improved from 337 to 390 during the same period. These two figures read in conjunction with one another are reflective of overall improvement in mobility.

“On the other hand, the utilization of wagons for carrying goods has also recorded improvements as reflected in improvements of NTKM per wagon per day. It may be noted that NTKM reflects the average net weight of goods carried by one wagon every day multiplied by the value of distance travelled by the wagon,” Sharma added.

The NTKM recorded an improvement from 5253 in 2017-18 to 5908 in 2018-19 (till October). During the period the average net load carried by each goods train in N. F. Railway has also increased from 1340 tonnes to 1371 tonnes.

During the same period, the average distance run by each wagon has also increased from 159 to 175. The cumulative effect of all these has resulted in increase of average speed of goods train from 25.8 kmph to 27.2 kmph during the same period.

This achievement has been appreciated in the principal officers’ meeting of N. F. Railway held recently and it was resolved to continue the efforts to achieve maximum earnings with the same strategy, Sharma further stated.
