A patrol party of Government Railway Police (GRP) on Thursday morning apprehended two women and seized a huge consignment of Yaba tablets from their possession at Guwahati railway station.

During a routine checking at the Guwahati railway station at around 7 am on Thursday, personnel of the GRP nabbed the two women originally hailing from West Bengal.

The apprehended women have been identified as Soma Paul, aged around 26 years and wife of one Rajib Mazumdar and Sangita Modak, aged around 30 years and daughter of one Amar Modak.

Both hailed from New Alipurduar of Alipurduar district in West Bengal.

They were apprehended from Down 12423 Rajdhani Express train.

They were carrying the tablets in 175 small pouch packets each containing 195 Yaba tablets.

The total numbers of tablets were 34100 and valued approximately Rs 34 lakhs.

They were moving with the consignment to Alipurduar from Dimapur for onward delivery of the consignment to Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, a case under NDPS Act is being registered and investigation is on.
